During the holidays each year, Olbrich Gardens transforms a large part of its visitors center for the Holiday Express Model Train & Flower Show. The show is open daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. throughout December.
When my kids were younger, this festive display of large-scale model trains traveling through a unique scene created by Olbrich’s horticulturists was a holiday tradition for our family. After attending the show, we’d drive through the Holiday Fantasy in Lights at Olin Park to complete the day.
Olbrich Gardens teams up with the Wisconsin Garden Railway Society for the show, which features all kinds of large-scale model trains, including steam trains, bullet trains, a circus train, a freight train, and even a Santa train.
The theme of this year’s show is “Wisconsin Homegrown Holiday,” and the trains travel through picturesque Wisconsin countryside scenes, including dairy farms, cranberry bogs, ginseng fields, and farmers markets.
The Holiday Express Model Train & Flower Show is FREE for Olbrich members and children aged 5 and under. Admission for non-members is $8 for adults and $5 for children 6 and older. Your paid admission also gets you into the Bolz Conservancy.
